The Northern Star is the train that Mr. Nicholas catches, shown in 'Tis A Gift. It was played by the Grand Canyon's ex-Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad No. 18.
It is the name of the special Christmas train which runs to and from the North Pole, and it even lives at the North Pole.
Trivia
- Most of the trains on the Indian Valley Railroad always run late to operate in a snowstorm, but The Northern Star is the only train that can operate in the snowstorm.
- The train is not supposed to run on the Indian Valley Railroad but surprises everyone in Tis A Gift when it shows up. Also it doesn’t stop at Shining Time Station, or anywhere else on the Indian Valley Railroad but it somehow shows up.
- The sound of its whistle, is a Southern Pacific six-chime whistle which was heard at Shining Time station when it arrived. This whistle was the actual one that No. 18 used to wear while it operate at the Grand Canyon railroad.
