Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (often known as it's abbreviated name, MGM) is an American film and media company involved with production and distribution of feature films, television programs and animation. In the animation world they are most famous for producing the Tom and Jerry cartoons that ran from 1940 to 1958. As well as helping the other works of Hanna-Barbera and Tex Avery's animated films.
Most of the older cartoons are in the public domain, allowing film and television crews like Shining Time Station to use them.
